Restorative Dentistry

Restorative Dentistry is the art of repairing or replacing broken/decayed or missing teeth. This can be done with fillings, crowns, bridges, and implants.

Fillings

A filling is used to correct a small hole or to treat a cavity in a tooth. The dentist will remove the decay in the tooth and fill the hole with either tooth colored composite resin filling material or in some cases, a silver amalgam filling material. Talk to your dental professional to see what filling material is best suited for your situation.

Crowns

A full coverage crown may be needed when the tooth has a very large cavity or decay that compromises the health of the tooth or puts it in danger of fracturing. After having a root canal on a tooth, a crown is most likely recommended to protect the tooth.

Bridges

A bridge, usually made of porcelain, is a fixed dental restoration to replace one or more missing teeth. It "bridges" the gap between two healthy teeth where one or more teeth are missing. A bridge can also be used between two implants to replace missing teeth.

Root Canals

A root canal is a dental procedure to remove the inflamed or infected pulp from the root which is then skillfully cleaned and disinfected. The root or roots are then filled and sealed. This is to eliminate bacteria from the infected canal and prevent re-infection, saving your natural tooth. Most often, you will need a build up and full coverage crown after the root canal.
